Despite scheduling conflicts and player availability creating a disruptive preparation the Twyford Eastside Motors Wide Bay 2 side took to Federation Park in Maryborough ready to get the season off to a positive start. Taking on an unknown opposition in Granville the team which consisted of players from all four UPE divisions started well in rain affected conditions. Under the captaincy of loyal servant Jayden Pym some great counter attacking play had UPE up 2-0 with both goals taken well by Brendan Davis. Granville got 1 back with young keeper Reece Morrow saving his second penalty of the year already to keep the side 2-1 up at the break. The second half was a scrappy battle and saw UPE go behind despite the efforts of Paddy Pagliano and Alex Buckholz in the backline. If only Scott Bretag's header had gone in off the cross bar at 3-2 down with 10 minutes to go the result may have been different. Granville however ran away with the game in the final 10 finishing 5-2 up. Despite the result it was a pleasing effort by an inexperienced side and exciting things are ahead for season 2019.
