Div 2 ladies beat Bingera 3-0

Div-2 ladies celebrate a goal
by Lee Rowlands

After a week off for the bye, the Div 2 ladies team were back in action against the 2018 Premiers, Bingera. Both teams had three players backing up from the earlier Div-1 clash between the two teams and the div-2 ladies were out for their first win of the year after a strong first-showing in round one.

Kath was back following her injury in round-1 but only managed a few short minutes before aggravating the same injury and being forced to leave the ground.

UPE got off to a great start with an early goal from Emily N, squeezing one through the congestion to find the back of the net and register the team’s first goal of the year. With Lilliana filling in from Div-1 Emily was able to spend more time forward away from her traditional role of sweeper.

Much of the first half saw a very congested game, with all 20 players found in the vicinity of the ball for most of the half and as a result was very scrappy.

In the second half the game opened up a bit more and UPE were able to score twice more, once with a chip shot from Jade and another with a header from Taylor S from a well-placed strike by Bella.

Coach Mark Haster said "I thought our central midfield were good, particularly Bella, Fiona and Bek"

The ladies will be next in action against the competition new-comers Alloway on Friday May 26th at 6pm.
