Junior player transition

Junior Player Transition and Pathways

UPEFC will provide junior players with many different pathways through our club based programs, as well as external programs within our region. The transition from one year to the next will be an age based one with children playing with their peers in the correct age group. The opportunity for players to experience a higher level of play can be obtained through an individual players ability to progress at a rate greater than the rest of the players in the same age group. This will allow an individual player to improve their skills and test their progression against others players in a higher age group. This will be possible for those children involved in our club-based programs or through a club assessment. These programs are:

  • High Flyers Program
  • G.I.F.T Program (Girls in Football Tuition)
  • Goalkeeping Program

Outlined below is the natural progression for players in the club.

Mini Roos (Under 6 – Under 9)

Children will be allocated teams based on friendship groups, location on where they train, etc. and are not aimed at making one team stronger then another team in the same age group where possible.

Mini Roos (Under 10 – Under 11)

Children will be allocated teams of equal ability where possible, taking into account a child’s previous years with the club and people they wish to play with.
Those children who have demonstrated an ability to progress their skill level at a higher rate and are part of our club-based programs, will be given an opportunity to play up one year level where possible, but still have their base team in their correct age group.

Ie. Under 10 program based players will be asked to improve their skills on occasions in the Under 11 teams throughout the year. Under 11 program based players will be given the opportunity to play in our Under 12 Development team, consisting of our High Flyers from Under 11 and our developing players from Under 12, providing them both with an opportunity to enhance their skills further.

1st Year Competition Teams (Under 12)

Where possible this age group will consist of 2 teams:

A Dynamic Team – consisting of the strongest players in that age group, selected by previous coaches and Junior Director Of Coaching.
A Development Team – consisting of the remaining players from the Under 12 age group, along with the strongest players from the Under 11 age group who are currently in our club-based programs. The idea of combining these two groups together is to develop all players with the guidance of experienced coaches and providing them with an opportunity to succeed and develop.

These 2 teams will provide the club with strength in this age group along with a feeling of accomplishment for our developing players. The number of players playing up will be solely determined by the number of players in the Under 12 age group and the number of Under 11 players capable of playing in this division.

NB: It is also important for Football Bundaberg to separate this age group into an “A” and “B” competition for this to be viable and successful.

Competition Teams (Under 13 – Under 14)

Where possible the Under 13 and Under 14 players should continue to play with players in their own age group. The same process as for the Under 12 age group should be used:

A Dynamic Team – consisting of the strongest players in that age group, selected by previous coaches and Junior Director Of Coaching.
A Development Team (Under 13 team) – consisting of the remaining players from that age group, along with the strongest players from the Under 12 age group who are currently in our club-based programs. The idea of combining these two groups together is to develop all players with the guidance of experienced coaches and providing them with an opportunity to succeed and develop.

At this point in time Under 13 players are unable to play in the Under 14 team, due to the competition being played as an Under 13/Under 14 combined age group. If this was made as 2 separate competitions then a similar direction would be made to allow our Under 13 players to play with the Under 14 team.

NB: It is also important for Football Bundaberg to separate this age group into an “A” and “B” competition for this to be viable and successful, with our Under 13 teams playing in “B” division.

Competition Teams (Under 15 – Under 16)

Where possible these teams would stay as an Under 15 team and an Under 16 team, allowing both teams the opportunity to play with their own age group before the transition into Senior Football. Usually by this stage the club will only have 1 team in each age group rather than multiple teams due to the drop-out rate in this division.
